Dancing Dogs

About Us: where we come from and where we're going...

Mary Waugh Swindell

Mary was introduced to dog training back in 1990 when she adopted Gwen.  She began taking dog training classes while she was in high school, and continued showing Gwen in obedience and then in agility as she went to college at the University of Dallas.  Mary graduated from UD in 1995 and then packed her pup and moved to Pittsburgh to pursue her graduate work with Gwen.

In Pittsburgh Mary finished a MA in Psychology and completed the coursework for her PhD in Bioethics at Duquesne University.  To support her studies she began working at a bird dog kennel, teaching obedience classes, training boarding dogs, bird dogs and showing in agility and freestyle.  After 6 years of cold and snow, she packed up her growing canine family and moved back to Texas.  Her canine family had added 2 Dobermans, Devon and his son Cassanova.

This dynamic dog trio accompanied Mary to Texas, where she met her husband Michael and his dogs Madeira and Morgan.  With his help and support, Michael encouraged Mary to turn her love and hobby into a full time career.  In 2002 Mary moved to Ft Worth and in 2007 they moved to the Boyd property, and the current home of Dancing Dogs.

Michael Swindell
Already a dog lover, Michael became a Doberman fan while in the Marines at Camp Pendelton.  Upon return to civilian life, he quickly investigated the nearby Doberman Rescue of North Texas.  Madeira was down on her luck when Michael met her, and the two quickly developed a devoted friendship.  A few months later, Michael was called back to DRNT to meet another needs dog.  This poor pup had been returned twice already and was looking for a third try.  Michael and Maderia were the perfect home for Morgan.
Shortly after, Michael signed up for obedience classes at Doberman Rescue and met Mary and her dog family.  The rest, as they say...is history...Michael and Mary were married, merging their dog families in 2003.
Michael's other passion is working with his reptiles under the company Night and Day Reptiles.  His collection of beautiful snakes and geckos are a delight to view, and have been involved with PR work to help educate the public.

Nate the Great
Our son Nate is the next in line from this family of dog lovers.  Nate helps us teach the 10 am agility class, and has sucessfully helped many dogs overcome their fear of toddlers and strollers with his liberal application of cheerios.  He is excellent at throwing a slimy ball, and has chewed on his own Chuck-it stick for that unique, personal touch.
